Watch Atlanta Police Nab Car Thief who Tried to Return Stolen Vehicle

An accused car thief was the victim of bad timing when he tried to return a stolen vehicle and ran into Atlanta police officers still at the scene of the crime.

An accused car thief was nabbed by Atlanta police after the suspect returned to the scene of the crime to return the vehicle earlier this month.

The incident happened Nov. 7 when officers were called concerning a car that was stolen from a parking deck, WAGA-TV reports. The victim had left his car running in the structure when it was driven away. The thief was caught on security camera footage as he walked up to the car and drove off. 

Officers were still working the crime scene when the suspect drove up in the stolen vehicle and tried to park it. Recognizing the driver as the same man in the security camera video, officers approached the man, who fled in the car.

Police apprehended the suspect a few minutes later. He was arrested and charged with with auto theft by taking, possession of marijuana and obstruction.
